Why did this movie kill Jon Heder's career?

It had good reviews and did well at the box office yet, after this movie, he just kind of disappeared...

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

He did well with his part but I think his character was so offbeat that it, along with Napolean Dynamite, made him difficult to relate to other character types.
His latest reported venture, Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede, looks interesting, but not in a mainstream-blockbuster way.

It's kind of his own fault. He typecasted himself into a corner and his shtick got old quick. Now, he may very well be a talented actor, but unless he just happens to get lucky and do the right role at the right time, I'm afraid we will never be able to see whatever it is he may be capable of.

I agree, he typecast himself a little too much. He kept playing characters similar in range to Napoleon Dynamite, in that they were sort of quirky, offbeat and awkward. I feel like Will Ferrell has had issues with this too (usually plays loudmouth) but he manages to overcome it more. Plus Jon Heder has a young daughter and has said he picks his projects carefully because of his religious beliefs

I agree with the others.

I don't think it was this movie in particular, but his choice of movies up to this point. When an unknown actor suddenly has a hit/cult classic on their hands, they have a limited amount of time to capitalize on it before the public (being fickle) turns it's attention elsewhere. Arguably, Benchwarmers and School for Scoundrels as role choices hurt his career more than Blades of Glory did.

I guess he got known for playing nerdy types and seems to do more voice acting.

Its that man again!!
