Boy's operations???

You know what I hate? Movies that don't conclude all storylines.

I really wanted to know whether the operations cured the boy or not. I saw no point in having this storyline be depicted with such detail only to leave it hanging. I realize that it was used for dramatic effect against the main storyline, but a conclusion would have been appreciated after having invested so much emotion in Scully's crusade.

Nobody else has commented on this aspect of the movie, so I'll assume that I am alone.

Could it not be viewed that the conclusion to that storyline was simply Scully even doing the operation, because she hadn't given up despite all of the forces working against her (the boys parents, the hospital administration, the X-Files case that was trying to pull her away from her medical work, etc) to prevent her from getting to a point of even TRYING the treatment?
