If you think about it, all the fans of The X-Files should have said they loved this movie and seen it at the cinemas and bought it on DVD, even if they didn't like it, because that would have increased the odds of them making more movies. All the fans bashing the film and then saying they want a better, mythology based film, are shooting themselves in the foot because they won't fund a new movie now that this got such a bad reception.

Why in any sane mind would he think for a movie sequel, SIX YEARS AFTER the shows CANCELLATION it was a good idea to do a stand-alone monster-of-the-week styled movie? It should have been mythology.
I was highly scared they would fully cancel and reboot/remake/reimagine--- whatever it because of this movie. I'm glad however they are bringing it back, even if for six episodes.

I agree it was close to the absolute minimum what they did.
Still, it is defensible why they didn't choose the mythology. A quality stand-alone episode seemed easier to make from a small budget. They screwed it up big time, but that is another matter.
they could have done mythology with a small budget, just like one of those Super Soldier episodes. they didn't have that much to them...
or the episodes in Russia with the black goo. Mythology didn't have to be CGI Spaceships and big budget effects and sets.

Yes, they could have done that. They've probably thought what they did on television wouldn't be enough and a feature film about the mythology would raise high expectations about visuals. So they wanted to keep it on a smaller scale. It didn't work out in the end.
Have you seen the new episodes? I've only seen the first one (don't say anything about the second please), but I'm OK with it. Although it's nothing really new, it's back on track at least. It doesn't feel anything like this movie or the last few seasons.
NO,i think FOX give a shot in his on foot by giving a 30 million budget and releasing the movie in the summer 1 week later of the dark knight,the biggest movie that year who also destroyed de box office.
Even David complained about the date release,It should be in the fall and not in the summer.
I mean The X Files put Fox network on the map,star trek in 2009 had a 150 million budget, so why not the x files?
