I have never understood (spoiler)

how the pictures of Douglas & Bassinger were ever taken. I mean, I know how they were taken - but they make the point of having him painstakingly close all the curtains in the room...and yet, someone takes pictures of them through an open curtain???

Yeah, I didn't get that either.

Actually, if you watch it again, you'll notice a rather obvious (in retrospect) bit of foreshadowing. They kiss first, and only then does he go to close the curtain. Seems like a pretty stupid thing to do to me, but then I'm not the one who thought that having an affair with the first lady was a good idea.

Another thing that makes it at least a little more plausible: Douglas' character mentions that the pictures were taken from a boat with a sophisticated gyroscope-stabilized camera, so presumably at the time they were in a room that faced open water, perhaps with no visible boats (if a strong telephoto lens had been used). In that situation it's conceivable that he'd let his guard down a little, since at the time he had no reason to think the technological resources of the SS would be used to obtain the photos.

Or.. if you watch it again, you can see when they kiss, that theres a glimpse between the curtains.. A rather large one, too..
