The plot never addressed it.It just stated that the President and the First Lady were safe since they were not in it.I think that it just wanted to show that the real mole (Montrose) do have mixed feelings about wanting to kill the President by fully cooperating with the KGB.

BTW,Eva Longaria was hot in this film!!!!!!

to answer your question: 2 US Marine pilots, 5 US Marines (US Presidential Detachment)possible a few USSS agents. So you are looking at least 7+ dead from one Surface to Air missile (probably a Stinger) ever notice how in the movie you can see the smoke trail, Marine One explodes, next scene smoke trail has completely vanished.
