Tigress a boy?

Has anyone ever mistaken Tigress as a guy before instead of a girl when they were watching the movie the first time around? I was just wondering cause very little people I know thought Tigress was a boy before they saw that she was a girl. I think it was the way they drawn the character before they notice it was Angelina Jolie playing the role of her. I already knew that Tigress was female the first time I heard about the movie last year.

Well, her name IS TigRESS...

And also her qipao was red. If she was a male I'm sure the writers would make the dress black or blue. Females generally wear red.

reply

True, but I think something more of a lighter color would of made people thought she was a female than mistaking her for a male. Females usually wear something more like pink or girly girly, but not Tigress no. Red suits her style. I think it's suppose to mean leadership in the furious five group.

Well a woman did the voice for Tigress, so it is obvious Tigress is a she.

reply

Never thought she was anything but female.

Well when I was watching, during the selection of the Dragon Warrior, I could've sworn the "announcer" was calling Tigress a "he." So I said his name is Tigress and he's a guy? Once I heard her speak, it was obvious. Guess I heard the announcer wrong.

Would it be easier for everyone if her name was Miss Tigress the Female Kung Fu Master Who is a Girl?

How clear does something need to be?

reply

Exactly.

Never thought she was anything but female.

me too

reply

I thought Tigress was a guy when I'd seen the trailer.

The name Tigress and the fact that she was voiced by a female (Angelina Jolie), should have been a dead giveaway to most people. o_O

At first I thought the tiger was male.

Then I saw one of her moves and it looked a bit effeminate. That set me wondering.

Then I heard her voice - very feminine - and finally someone called her "Tigress", which settled it.

reply

Well without hearing her name or her voice I could see the confusion. Although if this was anime she would have actually had breasts so there wouldn't be the confusion.

Does this apply to tigers in the wild? I mean, can one really tell the gender of a tiger just by how masculine or feminine its motions appear to the person looking? Sorry, but I can't help but think this whole argument is silly. 

I'm reminded of a character from the Cartoon Network show "Uncle Grandpa" named Giant Realistic Flying Tiger (yes, that's really its name, mentioned in its entirety every time it's referred to or addressed). The tiger doesn't talk, just roars, so a lot of viewers assume it's male. But there are details here and there to indicate that's it's, in reality, a female, otherwise viewers would never know, including in one episode she's painting her nails/claws.  
