Please forgive me for what is probably a very dumb question since I have now watched the trilogy twice.
I still am not sure when and why Jason became amnesiac. Was it after his first failed "kill" when he did not shoot the African leader? Or was it after he ended up in the drink after the African shot him in the back?
Think it is a mixture of both....
Wombosi was painted out to be a monster that Bourne needed to take out to save American life's... job was pretty straight forward, problem is suddenly Bournes sub-cautious kicked in when he saw the kids and that Wombosi (for all he was) is a father, and suddenly all the training and mind-alternations he had by Treadstone was out the window and he could not do it.
That probably got his mind into a state of confusion, and ending up in the Medd after being shot probably finished it off.
