i hope this new will be as good as the bourne ultimatum or even better.

i went to see INCEPTION 5 times... !!!

reply

hema6662003 I'm sure it will be on par with the other 3 films which were really good

what you think of Matt's other films he has done in the past few years

reply

I'm legitimately excited.

Make Cross from Legacy a villain (or at least have them team up) and it might be one for the ages.

reply

cactusjac2000 I'm really excited as well, I wouldn't make Cross a Villain as he seemed he wanted to know bout Bourne in a good way! so def make them team up

Could very well be..... apparently Green Zone was done that Greengrass got a blank cheque (plus a Vietnam war movie he had planned), to make his film after the success of Ultimatum, on the basis a 4th Bourne movie would be made.

From what I recall in press release, Universal were not pleased that Green Zone was taking FOREVER to get in the can, and were not happy with the final results (and basically tried to market it as a unofficial "Bourne 4" movie), thus canceled his planned Vietnam war movie, but they still expected Bourne 4 to be made.

After this ties between Universal and Greengrass got bad, with Damon standing by his director.

I don't know where you got your information from, but the film Green Zone--based on the book Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq's Green Zone (2006) by Rajiv Chandrasekaran--was actually filmed in 2007 right after they completed Bourne Ultimatum. It was Universal Studios that put the film on the shelf for 3 years because they were trying to force Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon back to a 4th Bouren film. That's why the film seemed a bit dated when it was finally released in 2010. Universal decided to market the film as a prequel of sorts to Jason Bourne because they couldn't get a 4th Bourne film. It wasn't Greengrass or Damon's power play at all. They were originally on board for the 4th Bourne film, but after clearing their schedules for part of 2008 and 2009 without a decent 4th Bourne script, they both had to return to the film projects they had back-burnered.

I know it was filmed in 2007 because that's when it was announced as the next project for Greengrass and Damon (during the promotion tour for Bourne Ultimatum) and it was listed as pre-production, filming, and post-production in 2007 on Matt Damon's IMDb page (I'm a big fan). Matt Damon did the film as a favor for Paul Greengrass, just like he filmed Hereafter as a favor for Clint Eastwood just after filming Invictus.

reply

There was a lot of re-filming in Green Zone, Greengrass even commented when asked in a interview in 2009 about when we would see it and he replied that there was elements he was not happy with and had almost reshoot the whole film again (filming took a entire year to do) and it was in post-production for what seemed like forever before a early 2010 release (I would not say it was on the shelf for 3 years).

I recall this as everyone felt he would make this movie in 2008, get it released in 2009 and we would get Bourne 4 in 2010.

It was not long after this that talk of Bourne 4 not involving Matt started to happen.

Matt and Greengrass were even talking about taking their idea's for Bourne 4 to another stadio.

reply

Wonder if they're going to have Bourne deal with terrorism or other threats to the U.S. So far the movies have been all about internecine conflict within the government. We've had four of these movies, seems like enough.

reply

I have a feeling they will bring something new to the table, so don't worry bout that

reply

As much as I like Renner as an action star, I could not finish the Legacy for whatever the reason. And this is coming from a person who absolutely loves the Bourne Trilogy. Just like Indiana Jones can't do without Harrison Ford (no disrespect to Tom Selleck), Bourne series just isn't the same without Matt Damon.

Yes, I'm super excited about his return as Jason Bourne.

reply

I personally thought Legacy was watchable, but I'm very excited bout Matt coming back for the next bourne

reply

I think if Legacy was standalone without any links to Bourne, though people would probably knock it as a "Bourne rip off" in the same sense as Taken, it would probably be accepted.

Problem is it tries to shoehorn itself into the Bourne world, and just does not find itself fitting into it.

reply

yea exactly which is why is had to be tried to the Bourne series of films, what do you want to see from the next Bourne film clark_gillies ?

reply

TBH they will need to come up with something really special.

They can not do the "on the run" story again, as it has been done..... Bourne coming back to work for the CIA/Treadstone, that is a bit Rambo-ish for me.

I think Damon has really aged far to much for a prequal to work (which would have interested me.....)

I just honestly can not see where they can go..... Bourne can not keep running forever.

reply

I agree with all you said.

Will Graham: I don't find you that interesting.
Hannibal Lecter: You will.

reply

maybe this will be the final film with Jason Bourne in so could conclude the story

reply

What is there to conclude?

Greengrass said they were struggling for idea's for Ultimatum the way they ended Supremacy, and it was only when rewatching it that the question was asked right at the end "what brought Bourne to New York?" that they got a starting point.

Ultimatum did tie everything up nicely enough.... its just Legacy came along and screwed everything up with the Blackbryer trial case

reply

As much as I like the Bourne Trilogy - I don't consider Legacy a Bourne film - in my opinion everything is said. We know he did it voluntarily, at least up to a certain point, we know what they did to him and how. What's left to be told?

I'm not a fan of those ideas like Bourne had a girlfriend - Nicky? No that one came out of the blue. Or the entire drug thing of that Cross story line. I don't buy it. They should leave it alone.

ETA: I preferred the first director anyway. Too much chasing, too much shaky cam from Greengrass for my taste.

Hannibal Lecter: You will.

clark_gillies I mean conclude in a way like the company/CIA stop looking for him/tracking him down like he is a criminal, know what I mean now?

Lucy9596 obviously it is not a Bourne film in the sense his character is the main person in the film, but his character is mentioned throughout the whole film I think after this new film they should leave it

reply

As far as the CIA are concerned he is dead.....

Something needs to bring him out of hiding for a movie to take place...... they have already done the story of him being framed for a murder, so we would just get a rehash of Supremacy.... other option is he comes back to work for the CIA, and given his reluctance to do that, it would have to be under conditions of a threat towards him (and even then, he probably has just as much dirt on them).

Legacy is going to be completely ignored in this movie (both in the movie and by the studio)..... there will be no reference to it (maybe at best a off the cuff throwaway line meant as a in joke).

I still can not get past the 45 minute stage of Legacy (its on tv next Sunday in the UK and no desire to watch it).... not because it is a bad movie (it has its moments) it just all the Bourne references that just annoy me, because it is not a Bourne movie and does not fit in with the series.

reply

The mentioning and even have the name in the title is a cheap way to benefit from the Bourne hype in my opinion. And trying to sell Bourne took those pills too was just ridiculous.
Let them make a new film - can't stop it anyways, right? - but I'm not convinced. Maybe they will surprise me.

Damon was really up for the idea of Bourne 4 in 2010ish (until now, that was probably the closest point we have had to a (proper) Bourne 4), so they all must have a vague idea of what they want to do, which will have brewed over the last 4 years.

It must be something good, as Matts career has not noise dived that much over the last few years that he needs to do a Bourne movie just to give his career a quick boost (granted, he his not had the run of hits like he had from 2002 to 2007 in the last few years when he was arguably at his peak in 2005/06)

I suspect any idea they had back then would have been free of Gilroy and his Legacy script (as it well publicized that he has beef with Greengrass and Damon for butchering his scripts for the 3 movies) and probably he will be only getting a "executive" title in the production of this movie.

TBH though, there is still a nagging feeling in my head that Damon will pull the plug on this film over the next few months.... until a script/plot is leaked, I am not getting my hopes up.

reply

clark_gillies yea but the CIA might not stop till they find his body in the water, where in UK you from I'm in Kent

Lucy9596 I agree with your first point, but when you said:And trying to sell Bourne took those pills too was just ridiculous! it was never implied he took same pills seems like it was a different project

reply

Thanks for clearing that up. Good to know.
