Pre-paid phone

Bourne buys a pre-paid from a market stand at Waterloo station and slips it to Ross so he can talk to him without being bugged. I know they used artistic licence, but man he put that phone together quick, got the battery charged up and loaded credit on the SIM card in an instant. Convenience! Wish it was that easy for me.

Yes, it's like the convenient red shoulder pack that was waiting for him on the rubbish bin in the bank cubicle in the first movie, when he opened the safe deposit box.

Only in the movies!

reply

Uh, Dude, really?

Those bags and bins are provided as a service so you can put your stuff in them. It's not just in the movies, it's really what banks like that do in real life.

reply

Uh seriously dude!

Used to work in a bank and we didn't. (Bins of course, but not shoulder packs).

But there you go, if you're right I guess it comes under you learn something new every day.

reply

I'm sure most common banks don't do it, but the big fancy Swiss ones do.

reply

I'll take your word for it, as well as the reality that I worked in a common bank and not a big fancy one.

reply

I have definitely seen those sorts of bags before, but not at banks. But my banks are usually in grocery stores lol.

It REALLY bugged me that he bought a magic phone that didn't need to be charged.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

Most phones these days usually come with a healthy amount of battery life in them these days.....

Unless the phone has been sitting around in its packaging for a while, most do come with a couple of bars in them to get you started (my last few have been like that).

Think its all down to this recycling of phones these days that if the battery can still be used, then clean it up and reuse it on the newer model (that is why most companies that buy back old phones ask for it to be fully charged).

Would not say its a "magic" phone, just that they have been a little poetic with reality on that one.

reply

Yeah, the most recent phone I bought(HTC M8) was already charged about halfway. It was definitely not a leap of faith for this to happen in the movie.

reply

All phones are stored with about 50% battery. It is the sweet spot for the battery health and longevity while stored.

I just liked the fact that he walked up to some phone merchant, demanded "pre-paid phone" and the merchant obliged without comment. I doubt that any seller of electrical devices has ever made it so easy. Then again, they might have judged that he was not a good target for the hard-sell.

reply

The SIM card comes with credit and there are phones who are half charged when you buy them, at least mine alway were.
