No. I think there were males becoming hosts also. The Mayor I think was one but I'm not sure.

Yes, the Mayor had been impregnated. He got pumped, woke up in the basement and started eating the raw meat (including the dead people) that was down there. That big tumor on the side of his head was probably some of the worms starting to develop.
