am I missing something here? or is it just severely overrated

Had high hopes after reading posts here, but I'm pretty disappointed having seen it. Movie had irritating actors (especially Grant Grant, can't stand his face prior to his infection) and cheesy scenes which weren't entertaining at all.

Like every movie board on IMDb, there's always a flock of snobs jumping on the person who didn't like the film. The typical argument is "you just didn't get it" or "you obviously aren't intelligent enough to understand the satire". So pardon my ignorance, but what is it that I'm not getting here? Movie looks simple enough, but most importantly I wasn't entertained. at all. I was expecting a good comedy horror but instead was left with a cheesy movie that looks like straight-to-dvd material. It was neither scary nor humorous, so it pretty much fails in both departments.

Well FilmGeekWannabe, what type of horror comedies have you enjoyed in the past?

Are you a fan of the 80's gore ('Deadly Spawn', 'Street Trash', 'Terrorvision', etc)? If you're not familiar with the era 'Slither' was paying homage to, that would explain why you weren't a fan of the it. The film was fantastic treat for fans of the 80's video era, and I though Gunn's writing was on point.

i'm a fan of those kinds of films and anything troma but this movie fell flat on all counts. couldn't even finish it. never gonna finish it.

And again someone claiming this to be a hommage to the 80s. WTF is wrong with people? There's a movie that has severe flaws, someone points it out and sure as hell some other guy claims it was supposed to be "a hommage to the 80s". Stop it. There were bad movies in the 80s, yeah, as well as in every other decade. But there also were great movies that were fun to watch. If someone intends a hommage, better make it a good one. Else it isn't a hommage but an insult.

That said, this movie was bad. Utterly predictable, which I wouldn't mind if the characters were original and there'd be a good deal of humour. In "Slither", I didn't find the characters even likeable, gotta admit I was rooting for Grant to kill them all after half the movie. And funny? Not at all.

"Lake Placid" and "Deep Rising" for example were far more entertaining, but have ratings in the 5.something area. Even though they were hommages to the 80s. ;)

I personally thought this was a touch better than Lake Placid, but I also happen to like Lake Placid a lot.

There were a lot of nice touches that made me laugh, like the big board at the police station that had the attacks marked with little squids. Oh, and that casting, Gregg Henry and Nathon Fillion, were hilarious.

I am not going to try and convince someone who didn't like it to change their mind though. If you saw it and didn't like it, well that is that.

I just blind bought it because I always heard good things about it. Now that I've seen it, I feel the same way. It wasn't worth getting.

I'm not bagging on anyone who liked it. It had some moments I could appreciate, and I rather enjoyed the dry humor of the characters. However, I guess the reason I don't like it is because it went for crass rather than class most of the time in situations and language. I guess I judge a "fun" 80s type horror movie on whether or not my senior citizen mom and dad would watch it. Stuff like The Thing, Fright Night, The Fly and stuff like that make the grade. Slither wouldn't overall.

Well OP, it's really as simple as that "you don't get it". And don't take that as an insult. I loved the movie and thought it was damn funny(big Fillion fan also), but I can certainly understand people who don't find it funny/don't get it.

Dude, that's a REALLY odd way to judge horror movies since 99& of them will not fit in that category, especially one that is a throwback to cheap 80s horror...

You might like "Shaun of the Dead." I loved "Slither," but "Shaun" was much better.

It wasn't at all bad, but didn't deserve such a high rating.

I obviously "didn't get it".

Although I agree that the movie didn't deserve all the high ratings it got, especially on imdb, there was no real "satire" or an ounce of intelligence required to watch this movie. I watched it not expecting much, so I ended up thinking it was hilarious, especially the parts that were unnecessarily gory. But I like gore.

It did seem like a straight-to-DVD thing, and the acting was terrible, but as someone who doesn't get phased by horror films anymore, it was nice comedy relief.

At least this was cheesy but entertaining compared to other horror/comedy movies who are trying to be what Slither is but fails.

If you go into this movie with the thought of "hey it's sunday afternoon and I did enjoy those old horror/comedy movies" then you will enjoy it, quite simply.

I understand the OP. I loved this movie because of the writing and acting mainly. It sort of reminds me of They Live which I absolutely hated. Some people love it. I hated it but love Slither.
It's impossible to explain why people like certain movies.
I got into the characters in Slither and the writing. Sure it's a silly movie but so good for what it is. Loved it.
