remake
I wonder if this movie is almost a remake of Night of the creeps. Both are horror comedies with little Scifi in them and both deal with alien slugs.

I don't believe it was an official remake but clearly it paid homage.
Night of The Creeps itself is a semi-not-really-but-sort-of-remake which a lot of idiots don't realize when they come on here and cry out against Slither for being a rip-off/remake of NoTC. Not that YOU did that, you didn't, but many have. And they are morons because if one thinks this is a ripoff of NoTC then they would have to think NoTC is a ripoff of Shivers.
NoTC has much more similarities to Shivers than Slither has to NoTC. One of the main characters has the same last name as the director of Shivers, too. Although there are several name references in NoTC. But that one is a big one.
Whoa, I kinda went off there.
"It's Minnie Pearl's murder weapon."
James Gunn has been questioned on this matter before. He claims that he had never even heard of Night of the Creeps prior to directing Slither. I'm not sure if I believe that, being the horror lover that he claims to be.
"Nothing says "OBEY ME" like a severed head on a fence post."
It's basically a big long homage to old genre flicks, I saw one hell of a lot of Cronenberg's "Shivers" in it too, with less unsettling child rape and bizarre sex...

"I have often laughed at weaklings
who thought themselves good because
they had no claws."
I recall seeing Cronenberg's Shivers at a midnight movie in my late teens. The most bizarre movie I had seen up to that point. Giant pool orgies..etc...
