I'm a film student at Ryerson so I’ll try to explain. Today almost all films and ALL feature films go through certain steps in order to be made i.e.; development (script), marketing (distribution) there are more to these stages but I will stick to principalities and simple explanatory examples.
There are also three steps of production when making a movie:
1) Pre-Production: basically planning and preparation
2) Production: this begins when the camera starts to roll on day 1 of the shoot until all footage has been captured and filming has been completed (principal photography) Re-shoots can still occur when film is in Post Production if something does not look right. However that is rare because during production film is exposed at the end of everyday (called Rushes and Dailies) in order to view shots as soon as to avoid re-shoots.
3) Post-Production: as already stated in this forum is when you take the footage and turn it into a movie via editing, sound sync, soundtrack, score, titles, mixing etc...
Pre = before, Post = after.
So this movie has already been shot and it is now going through the post production stage.
Hope that makes sense.
