It's convention, Velvet, you have to respect it.

Many people thought that was a witty comment. It is a silly pun. I could have made that joke, having never even read the book. Just mentioning the title doesn't make it smart.

Though, I did enjoy the film a great deal. It's more than a nice new entry in the slasher genre, the concept of mixing documentary and narrative is interesting and unique.

This consept is not new. It was executed in a superior way in the belgian movie "Man bites dog" released in 1992... but I also enjoyed this movie.

reply

Did Man Bites Dog switch perspectives from documentary to narrative?

reply

No it didn't, but it's a very well made movie, equally as entertaining as this one...

"Prepare thyself. It's bloodshed time"

Man Bites Dog is a far superior movie but it's also far far different. Behind the Mask was made as a genre parody, whereas MBD is an often serious dark comedy that looks at the relationship between journalists and the people they study and how far they will go to continue that study. Mask touches on this at times, but at it's heart it's a much less serious and lighter film that even at its most serious is blatantly melodramatic.

This part of the movie failed for me, because I don't think he even saw the book before reaching up and grabbing it off the shelf coincidentally before uttering that lame line.

He's also a Jim Carrey wannabe, in case you were wondering.
