Romantic tension?

Am I crazy or was there a ton of romantic tension between Vernon & Taylor?

I kept picking up on that throughout the movie & I think that the romantic tension was part of what kept her willing to play along with the whole thing up until the moment Vernon was ready to start killing people. She liked him, so she didn't want to believe that he was capable of actually doing this.

There were a few scenes where they kept staring at each other, plus one or two lines that made me think that there was a little something there. The "Are you in love with her" line kind of made Taylor sound a little jealous, which made me wonder if the two of them were going to pair up before the final scenes. (You know, so it can be one of those "the killer is your boyfriend" type of things.)

Also, when he said "You're the one" while his head was in the apple presser, it made me wonder what exactly was meant by it. Was he saying that she was the perfect victim? That she was his "one" like Eugene & his wife were? (That actually would be interesting- the motivation would shift from revenge to a twisted love, which would suit the overall feel of the movie.)

I'm not trying to sound all fangirlish here, but this really interested me because I thought it touched on a lot of horror movie standards & such.

I thought this was intentionally added too, like he was going to fall for the person he picked to be the survivor girl who he planned to be Taylor.
Another thing I noticed on the subject of scenes where I thought this was when Leslie was saying goodbye to the crew, he sort of hovered around Taylor a lot more than the others before he went, possibly being sad because he wasn't sure she was going to follow through with his plan. The fact she did brought on why he said "I knew you were the one"

Totally! There was also the scene where they're sitting in the hayloft together before the night starts and they're holding hands in this very impassioned way--I can't remember the context but they both are selling this weirdo sadness and longing and I honestly thought that she wasn't going to follow through with killing him; by the end of the movie I wanted them to get together like Eugene and Jamie.

I rewatched this recently and there is almost constant physical contact between Leslie and Taylor; he's asking her for hugs practically as soon as they meet. He also takes a lot of pleasure in teasing her when she shows herself to be unaware of certain slasher film convention, particularly all the phallic imagery.

Also, the scene where they fight next to the van plays out like a very serious lover's quarrel. Taylor's reaction to his anger is telling, I think.

It appeared that way, but his attraction to her is explained at the end of the movie when it's revealed that she was the star of his little slasher show. He wasn't romantically interested in her.

I would say yes because as he's describing his survivor girl, Taylor asks if he loves her...
