'Into The Wild' : National Geographic 2009

I've seen both the films mentioned already on this board.

This new film is just now being provided on cable tv.

The man who is filmed, or actually films himself, was/ is athletic and has as I recall "trekked to the North Pole" and " summited mt. Everist." But, he isn't an outdoorsman nor a survivalist.

Yet, he always wanted to try his hand at survival. So, he set himself a goal of surviving in the Canadian wilderness Yukon for 90 days. He goes in with some standard backpacking type gear & a canoe brought in by plane, and the rest of it is his own attempt to go solo.

The region is beautiful and he is alone. He is scared of the bears which he routinely either sees or sees their scat. He begins to lose weight. Living on the land is easier said than done.

I suggest you all check it out. I won't tell you much more. They've had two episodes already which brought him to about the 5 week point. Remember his goal was 90 days ALONE.

I think youre confused. Into the wild is about Christopher McCandless. A young man who was always an explorer but nothing like an extreme athlete. He was really , at heart a hippie. And he didnt set out to spend 90 days alone. He basically abandoned civilisation and its rules and heirarchy. He wanted no part of it. In the end his story (and the movie) is a tragedy becuase he was a rare and special person and the world is a worse place without him. But it isnt the story you're thinking of. Though honestly id love to know the name of that one because it is a fantasy of mine as well.
