Dave and Regis Last Night

OK, I watched Dave's interview last night.

He kept asking when "the chubby guy" "the fat guy" was going to start his show. "Why isn't he on already? Why did he need two months? Is he even in the country? Where is he?"

And when Regis tried to say something, Dave told him "He's already been on my show, he seems to be a nice enough guy, but where is he?"

And:

"Hey, I don't have a dog in this race..." (something like that)

Ummmm.....Dave, YES YOU DO! YOU OWN THE SHOW!!!!

reply

Does he own the new show with James Cordon though? I thought this was it for Worldwide Pants involvement in the LLS.

reply

I'm not really sure....

Maybe someone could enlighten us/me?

reply

You are correct, cardifan -- CBS will have full ownership of TLLS with James Corden.

If one wanted to be enlightened, one need only check the credits. Worldwide Pants has been listed in the credits up until last Friday's show (1/23), but only CBS has been listed for the shows this week, which have been taping out of a studio in New York. So they appear to be in transition mode already.

reply

Yep, so far as I understand it, Worldwide Pants is basically leaving with Dave. CBS is going to own the new late night shows.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

I get the sense that with his retirement Dave doesn't ahve anything to do with either (and with the renewal of Craig 2 years ago or whenever CBS got part ownership back.

It is possible he is part owner (as I think Carson was for a while but I could be wrong. Carson didn't CREATE the Tonight Show..Letterman did create his show) but I kind of think Dave is retiring and other than the occational scandle I expect we won't hear much from him.

And no one has trouble with all the "fat guy" comments?

I'll bet in person, he doesn't look much heavier than any of the rest of the world. That is to say, he's no anorexic, like most of Hollywood

reply

The "fat guy" comments are a very "Dave" thing to do. He likes to pick one thing to say about something and run it into the ground until he squeezes every ounce of funny out of it in the hopes it will get funny again.

Also, since James has been on Dave's show, it seemed like he was simply doing the aloof Letterman thing. I think he actually likes James and hopes he does well.

Also, isn't Dave done in May? Colbert doesn't tape his first Late Show until September. So in some ways he's making fun of CBS for not changing the guard faster on both shows. Does anyone know if they're doing the same guest host stuff at 11:30 this summer?

reply

They're just rerunning CBS programming this summer.

reply

My god I just got back to my PVR and tried to watch last weeks shows and that was the most tedious stuff I ever tried to watch.

reply

Are you one of those PC whiners who is offended by the word "fat"?
