For now. Viewer's profile has changed (this season is having more female viewers than male ones, for example).
If the show loses the traditional viewers but fails to catch the new ones, numbers are likely to keep going down.
There's more: there's no season story arc this year. They said that's closer to the old show, and that's true (though back then there were mini-story arcs running along 6 or even 8 episodes). However, re-aiming the show to a new viewer profile, which is risky business, and giving up story arc that very same season, knowing that a season's story arc is one of the most useful tools to build viewer's loyalty, which is exactly what you need when you're trying to aim the product to a new profile... that's NOT smart business. Old British never would have made that mistake. They were sharp as hell.
