You know, I was reminded only yesterday that Matt Lucas was in the last Xmas special. Try as I might I can barely recall him being in it.

I think I blocked it out because his character seemed too farcical. 

I didn't enjoy the character very much but he played him well enough for what it was.

We'll see if they add any dimensions to him this Crimbo or if the Beeb has gone back to flat Christmas specials like that first one with Davis Tennent being in bed for the whole introduction episode for him 

I haven't posted in a long time but I see a couple things that I wanted to respond to.
Bringing back Nardole is the stupidest idea in a year of stupid ideas.
If BBC wanted to kill Doctor Who, 2016 will go down as the year they did it. First they end season 8 with Hell Bent, my all time most hated episode! 2015 at least ended on a positive note overall with The Husbands of River Song. But then BBC decided to give us a year without Doctor Who. What kind of network takes a hit show and just shelves it for a year?!?!?! Now, apparently, we have an annoying recurring character, Nardole! Of all the characters fans wanted to see come back, Nardole was not even on the list! I can't wait to see what lame story they come up with for his resurrection! Not only is he in the new Christmas super hero special  but he seems to be slated to play in multiple episodes of season 10 !

I've watched every classic & new Doctor Who. I have favorite episodes, Doctors and companions...Also many that are not favorites 😉 As much as I love the show & Peter Capaldi, I now have serious reservations about the future of the show and whether I'll continue watching.

Nice to see you back posting GrannyM!

I'll remain carefully cautious until I see the actual episode but I too am not too keen on seeing too much more (Or indeed any more) of Nardole in future episodes.

Doesn't seem like a smart move to be a jive turkey so close to Thanksgiving 

But when Nardole meets the Doctor in the Husbands of River Song he doesn't recognise him which hints towards either his brain being scrambled (Droll), time being rewritten (Contrite) or his head has been put back on his body (Farcical).

Had he met a previous or future incarnation of the Doctor - fine. However the same Doctor, regardless of time travel being the instigator here, seems a little bit...silly...even for a family TV show about a time travelling alien with a fascination for Earth.
