The Pro-Aristocrats thread
Notice how many Anti one's there are? well i just have to have one that at least starts by saying how great the film is. I adore this film and the fact that people will take that to indicate that I have a bad or warped sense of humor is stupid. The joke itslef is such an interesting joke because it doesn't rely on a well written punchline with a complicated set-up to memorise, it all comes down to the talent of the comic telling it, for my example I'm gonna use Gilbert.
For those who havwe a copy of the DVD look at the extra features to see his whole telling of the joke (Not the Hugh Hefner one, though I will reference that). Now he does use a large amount of filth, describing the acts in vile detail and adding more sex acts as each thought flies out of his mouth, but what I founf fuinniest was when he started to go off topic and comment on the joke itself.
There are several great moments in his telling that are just commenting on the joke. When he gets to the section about the Father, the fist and his daughter then he goes off on a tangent talking about the arm being like popeyes. He then points out the size difference between the fathers fist and the orriface of the daughter that the fist is going into (I'm trying so hard to tell this cleanly, I really am). After he does that he say "Think about that for a second, I'll wait" which is an instant laugh moment. you instantly picture the sight and it is definitely sickening, but funny at the same time because he genuinely waits till you picture it. Then he says "I'm just making a point" and move on with the joke.
Now his telling then goes on a bit more and he gets to the sweat, and he comments on the audiences potential reaction to that sweat, and makes a noise that he uses again to get another laugh. He then moves on with the joke, reminding us where he was up to.
Once he gets towards the end he voices everyones fear, asking why the talent agent is still there, why he let the act go on, why he didn't call the cops and why didn't he complain once. It is a really wonderful moment, instantly undercut by the simple line "But that's a whole other story"
This is not a joke to be taken lightly, it certainly can shock, but there are several other moments that get a bigger laugh because of the shock the came before. During the Hugh Hefner section Gilbert says "If you missed any portion, I'll repeat it" and you know he would, the joke is one of those that every time you hear it the reaction will be different, you laugh at some versions and groan at others, but all reactions are valid.
