Editing and Endless Explanations a total turn-off
I simply could not finish this film, and not remotely because the content. I would have loved to actually hear the joke told from beginning to end, but for at least the first half-hour (i.e. one third of the film), you get constant jump takes and camera switches (of the same subject) and inane intercutting between multiple comedians that was neither artful nor illuminating.
If they'd maybe used Carlin's apt-enough description of the joke's history, and then rolled one after another's comedian's variation/spin on the Aristocrats, I would have happily stayed the course. Shockingly (to myself), I just couldn't take any more people DISCUSS the mechanism of the joke, and was thoroughly annoyed by the fidgety editing. I scanned forward to catch some of the comedians people had talked about (Saget, Silverman), and even their material was constantly interrupted, so I finally gave up.
In short: great subject, generally amazing line-up of comedians, execrable execution.
