I completely agree. She's usually fantastic but just walked through this being totally one note.
I hate to say it, but I agree: she's right on the top of my list of favorite actors/ actresses, but in this film, she did not deliver.
She once explained in an interview that she loved drama/ art house films more, but they don't pay the rent and that's why she does blockbusters from time to time; but this film must have been her absolute worst. She was better in
Laws of Attraction, which I found not too good, but she's given a chance to display some comic talent there.
(In
The Lost World: Jurassic Park she wasn't too bad; first film I saw her in. Bit of a shame her character was changed so much - in the book she's more clever and stronger, taking the lead when needed. The role would have been more fit for Moore, had they kept to the original character a bit more.)
I understand she's playing an entirely different character here, but she's miles from her performance in
Hannibal, as FBI agent Clarice Starling.
Having said all that, it was good to see her in this film, and having picked it up for 1,66 Euros, it's a bargain to waste a few hours with.
A flood's not the answer, people just float.
