DNA
At the end when that blood sample smashes, there is still traces of the blood inside. DNA is very small and thre would have been enough to make this antibody they needed.

sharenah because one mistake and itd be over.
also they needed living platelets in the blood, so they can guage the difference between that blood and clean blood.
it wasnt DNA they were lookin for it was the mutated version of the blood.
although this film is set in modern day so DNA should have been a better option, i blame the script writers.
How bout the fact that a bug bite was enough blood but when they shoot one in the head and they get blood in thier mouths nothing happens.

Actually they specifically stated that it WAS the DNA they were after.
shareI have another question regarding the taking of the samples. The first time, they took only 1 sample, which was destroyed, same thing the second time. Wouldn't it have been smarter to take more than one sample, and each member in the team take one?? With all the casulities they are having, It seems silly to expect the ONE person holding the sample to survive.
Of course, this would have made it easier to save everyone, and not make the ending so drastic.
