When people have the freedom to choose, they choose wrong.

That statement is so true. With freedom and choice, humans eventually choose wrong. Not every time, not even most of the time, but enough times to make those wrong decisions significant.

In America, we're lucky enough to have freedom. But freedom comes with a price. The price includes everything from 9-11 to the Boston marathon bombing, school shootings, rape and murder, child and domestic abuse, theft, embezzlement, lying, cheating, stealing. Nobody wants Big Brother governments or dictatorships, even if it comes with less crime and more peaceful societies.

These dystopian type movies are basically telling us that above everything, freedom is the single most important thing for humans.

Well, not EVERYONE. But the ones that do always find something/someone to blame it on, even if they have to make it up, like the Illuminati :P How many people have you ever seen penniless and miserable that would tell you, 'Man, I just f'd up.'

That is a typical liberal view. The only time liberals support a person's choice is if the choose abortion. I know so many people who support nanny state laws and one flat out told me that "the average American is stupid and we need educated people to do what's best".....hence nanny state laws like plastic bag taxes, trying to ban large sodas, etc.

Another "utopia" movie that does have some themes from this movie (y'all might be surprised) is Demolition Man with Sylvestor Stallone and Wesley Snipes that is about a nanny state based in a future California.

Well, the only way people will chose "right" every time is if they become obedient automatons. There is no such thing as perfect. Everyone has a different concept of what an ideal world would look like. All we can do is slowly evolve towards the better over time. It is a challenging and complex undertaking. We will make mistakes and achieve great feats. It's kind of the point of life.

If people can get things wrong, then what makes them think that people get things right for others when they have the freedom to choose for them?

The best thing is to get things wrong for yourself only rather than get things wrong for others.
