Hypocritical movie

During the narration at the beginning of the movie, it is said, There are no winners, no losers. Then, the next scene, at the Nurturing Center, a woman says , "We win." Alienated me immediately. Later on, Jonah apologizes repeatedly to the Giver (Jeff Bridges) and is nearly reprimanded for doing that. Yet, later on, The Giver, repeatedly apologizes to Meryl Streep. Wasted 2 hours of my life watching this!

There were no winners when the woman said "we win" at the Nurturing Center...because unbeknownst to her, the losing baby was about to be murdered. I'm pretty sure that was the point of announcing that there are no winners or losers, and then hearing someone say the heavier baby was the winner; to make you recall it later on and feel the horrific irony. And The Giver apologizes to Streep's character either to be flippant, or to appease her, likely a little bit of both.

If these are your issues with the movie, then unfortunately a movie of this speed is clearly not right for you and you definitely did waste your time.

The Giver said to Jonas that there was no time for apologies that didn't mean anything. He was trying to teach Jonas how to be better than the wooden people in society. He wasn't trying to teach Meryl Streep's character anything, and he didn't care if he wasted her time. Also, though society has a whole officially didn't have winners or losers, just like the society valued precision of language, individuals didn't always follow that.

You just didn't get it, it isn't hypocritical, it's specifically showing us that no matter how hard you try to control behavior you will fail to some degree, and most likely, eventually, completely... the little cracks show, sometimes unnoticed, but sometimes not.
