Which scene in the movie was the most disturbing to you?

Out of the scene involving the elephant shooting, the war vision, and the baby being put to sleep, I found the elephant scene to be the one that was most up there. I have read The Giver book before, so the baby scene wasn't as disturbing, and the war scene gives you time to prepare for what's coming. However, the shooting of the elephant was the most haunting to me due to how sudden it was.

I think they were all horrible as they were supposed to be but the cold killing of babies just because they're a bit smaller was probably the creepiest just because of the complete lack of emotion they had about it

I thought the scene where the baby was released was the most disturbing. I think it's because Alexander Skarsgard was so gentle and caring while releasing the baby and it just made it seem extra creepy. I feel like it would have been less disturbing if he had been cold and detached while injecting the baby. The false (?) kindness is what really got to me.

this^^ times a 1000, I found this scene sooo hard to watch even though I have taught this book to my students for years and have read that scene so many times, watching it on screen with that little baby who was lying there helpless and making baby sounds one minute and then being injected in the head with a needle and watching the life drain out him so quickly was probably the most disturbing scene i have watched in a very long time...and hes Skarsgaard made it creepy cause he was just doing something ordinary...

That's because it *was* ordinary to him.

Riiiiight...which is what I was pointing out...it was ordinary...but you felt the need to make it seem like you're enlightening me with something I hadn't yet realized...

I agree with you. I have read the book numerous times, so I knew what was about to happen, but watching someone kill a baby so nonchalantly was disturbing to watch. Plus, seeing the baby stop moving and be put in the box and thrown away as so sad. I thought it was a really well done scene.

Yes; a very disturbing scene, for all the reasons you mention 

The elephant scene, as well. The baby being put to sleep was disturbing, but it's not a real thing, so the feeling was limited by that knowledge. The war thing...well, we are all so use to war footage and such now that it doesn't seem to bother people like it used to. When people used to see footage of Vietnam, and previous wars, it was shocking, but since the 24/7 coverage of wars that started with Desert Storm, it just doesn't have the same impact. Today, the majority of people are more disturbed to see an animal killed than a person, just like the elephants.
