One of those underrated mid 00's Comedy gems
Recently rewatched this again on Netflix. And it really holds up and is better then it's 6.2 rating on IMDB. It's not a lost comedy classic or anything, but I think it's lower 7 rating in terms of IMDB scores for sure.
It's casting is the films major plus, without them I don't think this would have held up as well. Ryan Reynolds shows why 16 years later he's still a big star, his charisma and likeability and his excellent comedic chops really carry the film. Anna Faris, Chris Klein and Chris Marquette are scene stealers anytime they are on the screen. Amy Smart is a likeable romantic interest.
The film really kicks in around the time when he arrives back home to his old town is when this film really steps into top comedic levels.
7.1 is around the my score for this one. It's a shame it doesn't get mention when it comes to comedy films of the last 20 or so years. I don't think it's top tier but at least underrated gems mention and it's far better then it's 6.2 rating.
