You both are insane. This is one of the funniest movies in recent years. I think the only way we will be in big trouble, is if you are in charge of modern comedy. It was a fun, goofy movie. Relax. It's supposed to be a good time - and in the end, the leading character did develop sympathy with his own feelings and his bff. Perhaps the stick up you butt is keeping you from having a sense of humor. Ha ha I'm just playin. Happy 4th everyone. :)
One of the best comedies ever made and the Christmas lights scene doesn't go on long at all. Is that is the biggest "fact" the OP has for not liking this movie? The main character not sympathetic to what? To who? OP Doesn't even make sense.
I said that it is one of the worst movies ever made. Of course, I just saw "Horrible Bosses" and that was terrible, too.
But I suppose teenagers will like it. Most teenagers I know seem to love every movie they go to.
And no, I am not a senior citizen. I just hated the characters and for me to love a comedy I have to like the characters. In a drama it doesn't matter so much, but in comedies it is important. At least to me.
I just don't find it funny when characters are hateful and mean to each other. At least most of the time. I thought parts of "Mean Girls" was amusing, for instance, but that had a much better script and better direction. Perhaps I prefer that film because the characters are supposed to be mean, but in "Just Friends" we are supposed to empathize with the main character, but he turned out to be so unlikable that I just couldn't stand him.
Don't get me wrong, I really like some of the "Just Friends" actors in other, better films, but the writing is so terrible. The script really lets them down.
Check back in a few years and see if you still find it funny. I think that you'll find that it doesn't age well.
I agree that the main character is a jerk but I found that his bitterness worked well for the story because he was supposed to be so scarred from his highschool career that he uses his calousness as a shield.
I feel the humor in this movie is actually on-par for the time when it was released (when comedians like Dane Cook were considered funny).
Just because something doesn't fit into your idea of funny doesn't actually make it a fact that it is bad or unfunny, lots of people found Horrible Bosses amusing also. Your self proclaimed opinions aren't facts. The script is funny. Not everyone needs to "like" all of the characters in a comedy. Anna Faris is hilarious as the dumb blonde. Ryan Reynolds is playing someone who went from being bullied for being overweight to being a confident success and then goes back home and sees the girl he loves again that turned him into a bit of a jerk after putting him in the friend zone. I don't see the need to sympathize with that. It is called a storyline. There is more than one way to write comedy characters. The hateful and mean parts? Two guys fighting over a girl? Maybe some males would get this movie more than you seem to. Don't get me wrong but maybe it just went over your head.
I checked back and at least watch this movie once a year if not more.
"for me to love a comedy I have to like the characters" Whereas most people _can_ handle a character like Will Ferrell's in Anchorman or Zach Galifianikis's in The Hangover or Sacha Baron Cohen's in Borat or Jon Heder's in Napoleon Dynamite or Ben Stiller's in Zoolander.
Naw, I disagree. It has a decent cast and a few good moments - probably just about enough to look good in a trailer. So not really bad but not good either and with such a high cringe factor and I won't be bothering to watch it again.
Its almost bad enough to make you want to run off, live in a cave & join the Taliban and that's pretty bad . But so many movies are written for the third world these days that think Ronald McDonald & Colonel Sanders are real and the rst of the comic book world .
Somebody throw humanity a life line , we have all gone insane .
"Want to know how to make God Laugh? Tell Her your plans...."
I love this movie (& horrible bosses) & I was in my forties when I went to see it, I laughed out loud & really loved the ice hockey part especially when Dusty Dinkleman showed up to kick his butt. Amy Smart is gorgeous but Anna Faris steals the movie with her wanna be Paris Hilton character.
Movies that were meant to be funny or interesting over the past few years include knocked up, the breakup, gambit & lincoln (which I slept through) now they are among the worst movies ever made
