Skates

One thing that has always bugged me about this movie is the skate scene. Ok, fine so his mom threw his skates out. The guy found a place in New Jersey to rent a Porsche. Certainly he could have found a place and had the money to buy himself a pair of skates. If I had money like the movie makes him out to have and was trying to win the love of my life, I'd buy a pair of skates.

Exactly! Rent an expensive and impractical for the weather sports car to drive through snow to show off,but put on crappy ice skates when you want to prove to her you are a better skater now?

That whole skating scene is one of my least favorite parts of an otherwise fun, silly movie. I get that the humor is supposed to be over the top at times...well... more like, over the top more often that not, but that part was ridiculously annoying and embarrassing--rendering it hard for me to watch.

And we know there is a mall out there because he has his brother take Anna Farris' character there to keep her out of his way while pursuing the love of his life.

So there is no excuse to not at least attempt to get new skates. So he really should have made sure his old hockey skates were still available ahead of time instead of assuming his mom kept them just for the sake of keeping them, sentimental value or something.

I always took it as the skates weren't some old crappy skates, they were skates that haven't been broken in yet, they were stiff and he was uncomfortable in them. Hes used to his own pair thats probably formed to him only, much more comfortable.

I think it's possible that he waited until the last second to look for his skates.
