How can people think this is a good movie?

I'm not a troll and I'm not trying to start any kind of flame war, but I really don't get it. This story was muddled and the characters were poorly developed and seemingly caricaturized. Rarely have I gone into a movie and felt NOTHING for the main characters. Bale (whom I usually love) was over the top in more ways than Sly Stallone could ever dream, Freddy Rodriguez was mildly sympathetic, and the rest of the cast felt forced and awkward.
I saw this in theaters with two friends and an empty house behind us. The most dramatic moments in the movie elicited nothing more than laughter, and "pistos" has since become a joke when referring to beer. As a comedy, this movie is mediocre, and as a drama, it's a step above (I've been trying to think of an awful drama for 10 minutes and I can't; don't judge).

Someone either tell me what I'm not getting or tell me I'm not crazy.

They do suggest at first with heavenly shows."

i thought all the actors gave an authentic performance.

some may watch the movie and be in denial about how harsh life is for some people. The movie is harsh and makes you uncomfortable. In disbelief, they label the performance as overacting, not believable, etc without actually know anything about South Central LA or ptsd. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Well, you aren't crazy , you're a little to crytical , I really liked Bale in this movie , I like that he can act more then 2 or 3 ways, he was really over the top, but I think that he wanted (I don't know why) , and the drama of the movie, I don't know about you , but in the end when Freddy pointed the gun at Bale's head I was crushed and when he pulled the trigger I felt sorry.
Maybe if you will rewatch the movie one or two times (if you can) maybe then you will see where i'm getting at. Good luck.

Really good film. I have friends like Jim (Bale) and they act the same way. Some who are in the military and some who came from poor backgrounds.

It was entertaining as *beep*, and because Christian Bale's wacky performance. Really enjoyed this flick.

Well, films are subjective. But I think this film can really scare people about some of the people that are in our military and government. Not everyone is like that of course but the director really hits home with some of this stuff.

You're not crazy. It was a pretty unrealistic film in nearly every way, down to the cringe-worthy nonstop ethnic ebonics talk. Two hours that lead nowhere.

And what movies you fell in a intense drama for example?

reply

There are nutjobs like Jim everywhere in the world. This movie was very real, gritty and raw to me. Great flick!
