Would an army ranger act this stupid?

Yes. I've met a number of military types and when they're off duty they can be just as stupid as anyone else. That said, they're not all like that at all, there's probably a similar ratio of stupid-to-normal military types as there are civilians.

Rangers (at least junior enlisted) aren't really picked so much for intelligence and maturity as physical fitness and combat ability. They're not special forces, they're more elite light infantry.

Yes, a younger, enlisted Ranger would act this way. My ex was an Army Ranger, and at times while watching this movie, I felt like I was looking at my ex. Christian Bale NAILED this part!

I was an army ranger from oo to 06 and I can say I was a lot like Jim when I came home its def hard to adjust and many don't ever get right ...but also a lot of us do get help and figure it out and I myself am in a very good place now
