Does anyone know about the 'sprinkler' problem?

I read that they have a math consultant that used a real formula for that. I'm trying to find more information about geographic profiling and I'm not sure if that's even the right term.

any questions or comments are greatly appreciated!

Gary Lorden was the math consultant for the show. He has a book, "The Numbers Behind NUMB3RS: Solving Crime with Mathematics." Chapter 1 is "Finding the Hot Zone, Criminal Geographic Profiling." Amazon has it.

Here's "The Math Behind Numb3rs" with math notes about the episodes. (I don't know how much longer they're going to keep that info available, since it's attached to the Numb3rs site at CBS.com.)

I emailed Gary Lorden and he suggested looking up Kim Rossmo. I found a paper that specifically referenced the geographic profiling to the Zodiac killer case. I don't remember if he is the author, but it made some interesting speculations about where the killer may have lived or worked.
