Is this show any good?

A lot of shows have a uniquely talented main character with some personal flaw. Call it the House-effect (which can be called the Sherlock Holmes-effect...)

I like these shows, some more than other, but I have one issue that plagues most of the shows; less focus on the unique talent and more focus on generic crime dramas. I want to watch the unique main character.

Here are some show that follow this formula:
House
Lie to Me
Castle
The Mentalist
and finally Numb3rs.

I really dig the math theory in this show, and I hope it will focus more on it. I just finished watching season 1. and am watching the first episode of the 2. season. I am afraid that Numb3rs will go the way of all the other shows...Generic drama instead of focusing on the unique talent.

Should I keep watching? Does it get better than S1, that I felt was a little uneven (not helped by the facct that I didn't see all the episodes...)?

All input is welcome!

While nobody can make the decision for you Wings, I would highly recommend sticking with it. N3 develops into a character-driven ensemble drama, with as much emphasis on Charlie's central character development as with the procedural nature of the investigations. However, it doesn't lose sight of the importance of the 'unique talent', as Charlie's abilities are shown time and again to play a key role in investigations carried out by his brother's team. The really nice thing about N3 though, is how the relationships between the characters are shown as well, including the Eppes family.

Keep watching. And I really hope you enjoy it!
