What's with the blackboards?

Does a math guy really need blackboards to work out math equations? Wouldn't he be more likely to use a computer? Or at least a smart white board? Or even a regular white board?

Or why not pencil and paper?

Blackboards are totally anachronistic, nobody uses blackboards anymore.

Firstly,

anachronism: the representation of an event, person, or thing in a historical context in which it could not have occurred or existed.

Secondly,

most tertiary institutions in the USA still use "chalkboards".
