I would have loved for this show to have done the same thing HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET did: Tie up loose ends with a TV movie less than two years after the last episode airs. The longer you wait, the farther afield the characters have to range.
1) In 2016, Don would most likely be behind a desk all the time. It would be unrealistic for him to still be leading a unit in the field.
2) Charlie and Amita should be heading departments at Cali Sci; it would be funny if their son/daughter was a total math klutz, unable to go beyond 12x12 without lots of help.
3) Alan may be dead or have passed into dementia.
4)Larry has retired, and only consults
