Unfairly Bashed

Come on, it's not as bad as people make out it is. I've noticed on here that many people see a film getting slated and merely jump on the bandwagon.

Of course the film is flawed, and yeah it's nowhere near as good as the original, but the effects are good and the whole film has a nice, creepy undertone throughout.

Ropey acting and implausible plotlines are commonplace in the horror genre so why single this film out for so much criticism?

3.2/10 is unfair. I'd give it 7/10. Sorry but I enjoyed it.

If you've still to see it, ignore the bashings and see it for yourself. Then you can make your mind up whether it's crap or not...

Yeah, I'd give it an 8.

Garbage.

No, it's as bad as people make it out to be.
Creepy? Not in the least with all the hokey cgi effects.
Much b-movie acting is bad, but at least you can still like the characters.
I thought the acting was great in the original, especially from Adrienne Barbau, and all of the characters were likable.
I didn't like any of the characters in this sorry remake and didn't care if the "fog" got to them or not.
Like a quote states - "You know a horror movie sucks when you root for the killer."
Words to live by.

My rating stands at 1/10.

The worst complaint one can make about a film is that it is boring, and The Fog(2005) is boring.

I thought the makeup effects were really well done, but they were a waste of good makeup. Horror movies work amazingly well when less is shown, and the original The Fog left alot of things to the imagination, which is why it was such a creepy, eerie film. The biggest fault of this film is that it shows far too much. When Stevie's friend died in the original, he gets dragged into the fog, and we don't see him ever again. The way Carpenter shot the film, it was really eerie and creepy. In the remake, he gets dragged into the fog, and then gets spat out in a blazing ball of fire. Huh? Can they not even stick to a tried and trusted method of killing people. One minute their taking the victims eyes, the next setting them on fire, the next they rot them rapidly...alot of them are without explanation.

The old guy getting dragged into the sea is a ridiculously idiotic death. Just stupid. Kid running from the fog was comical. There was not nothing eerie or creepy about the film, the story was nonsensical, and the use of CGI fog looked terrible. A real physical fog, as used in the original, was a far more interesting and creepy effect than the tacky CGI fog used in the film.
We just should not have seen the ghosts themselves, bar the silhouette. Even in the original, we never saw their faces, merely the hooded figures.
The Fog was always present also, which added to the creepiness. Never knowing when someone was gonna be attacked meant we were always on the edge of our seats. Characters were introduced, develloped and killed off.
The ending has been criticised before, and I have to say the ending was atrocious. Made no sense whatsoever.

The reason, or one of the many reasons the original was so successful, was because we cared about the characters, and did not want to see them die. Its the difference between Friday the 13th and Halloween, both are entertaining films, but the original Halloween makes us care about the victims, while Friday 13th has us rooting for Jason.

It's crap.

It's not even "So bad, it's good." It's just bad.

Is that what your mum said when she saw your daddy's little chode?

i'v never seen it , so can't comment on it.

i will never see it. I am a huge fan of the original , and i point blank refuse to watch the remake

i like the original. despite being dated i think it still holds up well. I just watched the remake for the first time since seeing it back in 2005 and i have to say that the biggest problem is that the film is insanely boring.

it's technically well made. the atmosphere is fairly creepy throughout but the atmosphere is wasted in a lot of scenes that don't really move the movie along. the plot is all over the place. i actually thought the whole elizabeth reincarnated thing was a bit cheesy and more dated than anything that happened in the original. there were some good ideas and like i said it's technically well made but it's just a painfully boring film

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It completely deserves its 3.4 rating. The biggest sin of the movie is the horrible CGI fog effects, and of course the fog is a big part of the film so whenever the cheesy, fake CGI fog appears it completely takes one out of the movie.

There is absolutely nothing good about this movie. It isn't scary, the acting is terrible, the ending is a laughably bad attempt to pull off a shocking twist ending. I've seen direct to tv horror schlock better than this. If you think this movie deserves a 7 you have very very very very very low standards.

Or, if you think The Fog (2005) deserves a 7 you are probably just sane, and not a semi-retarded obese kid trolling IMDB forums.

reply

nope... I'm pretty sure it means you were almost blacked out drunk while watching it. If this deserves a 7 almost every other horror movie is a masterpiece.

how to enjoy this:
Don't be someone who worships at the altar of Carpenter. Don't pay to see this in a theater. Simply be looking for something to turn on tv while eating lunch. (I realize this was made as a horror film but) imagine this is a parody film. Be in the mood for something rather funny. Visit IMDb beforehand so you expect the worst movie of all time (which it then is not). Accept a flick where much does not make sense (way too much for me to list but you're certainly all correct about that). Never have been scared by any film in your life. Have one of only several fogs of the year roll in while show is on. (Aw, that actually didn't affect my enjoyment any.) Don't be bothered by it having the same title as another film. Always ignore drunks. Walk over to your computer during commercial breaks & watch gratuitous female nudity (as others have sort of suggested).

And there are such things as boring films but this joke is not boring.

reply

I did most of those things (expect the nudity part)./

It still sucked. Badly.

There is literally no way to enjoy this film.
