Selma Blair is no Adrienne Barbeau

Barbeau was a heroine in the orginal, she looked it!!! Selma looked like she was on heroine in the remake, she's a mess, the whole movie was a mess at least Carpenter got paid for it. But the original has nothing to fear from this crapfest.

You're not kidding! Selma Blair is cute, but her blatant attempt to copy Barbeau's voice and mannerisms was kinda funny. She's a girl trying to imitate a woman, and doesn't quite pull it off.

Selma is good in the HELLBOY films, but I think Fergie would have done a much better jobat playing Stevie, she just has more intesity to her, where as Selma just looked too fake in the role.

selma is a cute chick like many others but not much talented

reply

She's much more talented than anyone gives the poor lady credit for. Just because she doesn't overact like many older actors doesn't make her not talented

Adrienne Barbeau's performance in the original is outstanding. Yeah, this sorry remake has already been forgotten and Selma sucks at acting.

You're not wrong, brycat. Adrienne Barbeau had a voice like Karen Carpenter in the original. Deep, sultry, mature, and utterly gorgeous, and her overall performance was likeable. Selma Blair sounded like a cheap teenaged hooker and hammed her way through the entire script. Her radio scenes and the scene with her son when he wakes her up in bed were the absolute worst.

"The voice that launched a thousand ships"... Yes, if someone would invade an island to put someone with an ounce of personality in her voice on the radio instead.

One of many dreadful performances in this mess of a film. I set my expectations very low before I watched this, but I was still extremely disappointed.

reply

At least she tried, unlike everyone else in the entire movie.

"Mama, I'm in with a criminal."

reply

she tried, yes, but just couldn't do it. I remember when she's calling for help over the radio, she was just kinda BLAND, I would be screaming like Adrienne Barbeau did in the original!

Everyone's entitled to one good scare...

reply

She did try. Selma could be sultry enough to pull it off and she was sultry but she just wasn't Stevie Wayne. Barbeau was much better even though Selma's a good actress too.

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit' me!" Hudson in Aliens.

reply

Really? Selma was by far the best in this film. Yes, Adrienne was clearly better but let's not overrate Barbeau's acting skills here!
