as many people have insinuated, the major reason for the way Seagal appears in most of his newer movies is because he is insecure about his newly-fattened body.
as a result, he actually has it written into his contracts that in any given scene, he is allowed to wear a large, body-conceiling jacket. i'm not joking or exagerating, that's really the way it works.
you'll notice that for the exact same reason, in virtually every film he has made in the last 6 years, Segal's face is ALWAYS in the shadows. no matter what the situation, and no matter how well-lit everyone around him is, any close-up of Seagal will be in the shadows with only a sliver of light accross his face.
it happens in this movie, but check out Submerged, Black Dawn, or Shadowman and you'll see prime examples of what i'm talking about. one of the best examples is near the end of Submerged, at the opera house. while you can clearly see everybody sitting around him, seagal is so engulfed in shadows that he looks like a floating head.
but honestly, the REAL reason why you hardly can see Seagal in his new movies is because 85% of the time it's a stunt double. EVERY time his face is not up close and clearly on camera, it's a stunt double, no matter how simple or mundane a task. walking across the room? getting into a car? opening the blinds? stunt double, every time. it's amazing. and you normally don't even have to frame-by-frame it either, because the doubles are always half his size. it's terrific or terrible, depending on your sense of humor.
