Watched Early Edit...
Mr. Salim is a good friend of a film professor that I have at the U of M and showed a rough edit in our class (about 100 students) a few months ago. At that point it was still called Wedding Photo, but they were trying to come up with new names...Looks like they've gone with Sweet Land, which is a little uninspiring. I thought the movie should have been called 'Harvest' - but apparently Neil Young already has that one locked down.
Anyways, even in a 'rough draft' form with basically no sound or final film editing done, it was absolutely brilliant. The acting is magnificent, especially of the 2 leads (Elizabeth Reaser and Tim Guinee), and the story is a beautiful and complex tale about finding love in the strangest of places.
It's also amazing that they could make such an effective period-piece (Actually a '3-period-piece') for such a tight budget, but it was an absolute success.
We had about 2 hours of discussion with the director/producer/editor after the film and nearly everyone in the class agreed that this film is destined for great things. I hope a major company gets on it quick, because it is going to be a gold mine.
