I guess the main difference would be Academy Awards. Affleck has won two while Reeves...not so many.

Also, I think Affleck is a lot richer than George Reeves was. Probably owing to his writing, directing and playing the lead role in 10-12 fairly major Hollywood releases. A fair number of supporting roles also. Reeves really didn't have anything like that sort of success.

yes affleck had more successful career. Reeves was typecast in superman. Reeves did not much filmography he died young he did not get chance to work more. Back then working in tv was considered a low medium for actors so it was harder to make transition from tv to movies. With the surge of tv show due to netflix and the popularity of the superhero genre no doubt Reeves would had bigger career had he been born in different era. Yes ben was more successful but that does not mean he did not go through same crap george did. Ben even admitted he related to geroge. Ben had career struggles too. This role was meant to help ben but it hurt his career it bombed in box office.

Ah, now I see your point.

I agree. In fact, I found myself being aware that Affleck seemed to really identify with the character he was playing in this movie.

In fact, I heard Affleck slip into a Boston accent a number of times, even though George Reeves was from Iowa. You could chalk that up to bad acting. But I see it as a sign that Ben was speaking for himself, in a way, which I kinda liked.

Ben had a better career obviously but i sense ben took his own career trboule to do the role.

It didn't do well at the box office (they lost money on it) but it did not hurt Ben's career. If anything "Hollywoodland" was the start of Ben's slow-crawl to becoming a respectable actor after the "Gigli"/JLo fiasco. He was borderline B-list before this movie and on his way out the door.

He was nominated for a Golden Globe for "Hollywoodland" and this was the first movie he'd done in years that got positive attention from the critics.

That why Ben was so good in the role; he does "tortured man" so well because he is one; whether it's his personal or professional life, the man obviously has a lot of demons. That's why I always kind of had a soft spot for Ben despite his d0uchebaggery.

the town was his offical comeback. Hollywoodland was a critical comeback . it mAde people realize he had some talent since before hollywood he did mainly popcorn flicks that made people view him as movie star not actor. But in a business standpoint it hurt his career he came off a bunch of flops and this film was hyped as his comeback but it added another box office flop on his resume.
