Smoking Pot

How do you people feel about smoking pot? Is this acceptable for an adult to make their own personal decision to smoke pot? I can't wait to hear the hipocrisy from cigarette smokers and the lunacy of the anti-smoking radicals.

reply

At least with weed you get something out of it. With cigarettes, not so much.

You can't get addicted to pot.

reply

you can't get physically addicted, but you can get mentally addicted to pretty much anything

reply

[deleted]

It's quite literally physically impossible to get addicted to marijuana.

No amount of bitching and complaining about it will change that scientific fact.

reply

[deleted]

You complete idiot. It sounds like you're the kind of person who would not be able to distinguish between scientific theory and laymans theory.

Most everything, ever, can be "addicted" to if we use psychological addiction.

Shutting down any ridiculous logic like yours against "psychologically addictive" so-called addictions.

Hence why addiction is an established chemical and biological concept. Not a subjective idiocy that holds no place in the illegality of things that are illegal because of their chemical legal class.

Marijuana is NOT PHYSICALLY ADDICTIVE. As ive pointed out, no amount of crying and bitching changes that.

It is a non-addictive substance. It is physically impossible to get addicted to by humans and no-one, ever, has been addicted to it.

Try that fallacious idiocy about psychological addiction in relation to physical addiction doesn't change the fact it's not addictive either.

Try again.

I gotta say, when I quit pot I did not suffer one bit- psychologically or physically. And I smoked a hell of a lot of the stuff.

But I'll be the first to say that WHILE smoking pot, I never dreamed I could ever be "normal" without it.

"it keeps me normal"
"it keeps me even"
"I'm not so temperamental"
etc....

Whatever justified smoking it. The truth is that it feels good, it's relaxing, it's tasty and I enjoyed smoking it.

It could just as easily have been eating rice krispie treats.

Very well put. And under those considerations, I never have a problem with people who want to smoke it. It's just not conducive to a lot of the things people want to accomplish in life. It often gets in the way of progress- like most anything else that takes up your life.

Psychologically addicted means nothing. As it remains in the realm of being "addicted" to shopping and gambling. They are not physical addictions, they are psychological. And from the sounds of it you think a psychological aspect is the same as a physical addiction. It's not.

B!tching that somehow I said marijuana is physically addicted after my two posts specifically stating it is not physically addictive is not going to fly either, dumbass.

Try again.

reply

[deleted]

I notice you are being intentionally ignorant now in the face of being repeatedly refuted.

Try again.

I didn't contradict myself. A shopping "addiction" or gambling "addiction" are nothing. They are not physical. They are psychological.

They are meaningless because they are NOT based on what they are addicted to. Shopping doesn't cause addiction, it can't. It is physically impossible for shopping to cause addiction. A human who is psychologically addicted to shopping is that way through no fault, even remotely, of the substance.

That is why it means nothing. As they are addicted to something that isn't capable of creating an addiction.

Strangely despite your consistant b!tching and b!tching, no amount of crying from you changes a psychological addiction into a physical addiction.

Marijuana is not physically addictive.

Try again, dumbass. Haha. This time be less ignorant.

[deleted]

Whoops, you probably shouldn't use articles that back me up. Dumbass, hahaha.

reply

[deleted]

What you keep hilariously trying to describe is still not a physical addiction.

No amount of your bitching and crying makes marijuana an actual physically addictive substance. You know...an actual addiction.

Declaring everything and anything to be addictive through the demand that psychological addiction be an actual addiction tends to completely shut down your point regardless, as according to your own ridiculous logic EVERYTHING is "addictive". Therebye completely destroy any claim marijuana is somehow dangerous or "bad for you" because it can (and almost never is) psychologically "addictive".

Try again? This time with an argument?

Does anyone else have the ad on the side of their screen right now that says "WEED MAN"? Awesome.

I've never understood the appeal of smoking cigarettes (in today's cultural atmosphere, that is. I know their PR has definitely gone downhill the past few decades...). Smoking pot though, I get. There's at least a clear aim and benefit going on there.

Alcohol doesn't give the same effect as weed and its much more harmful to your body. But I see what you are saying, smoke weed only not too much.

reply

My stance of the substance use issue is that it is acceptable for anybody to make their own choices to use whatever they please, considering the fact there is very little to nothing that anyone can do about stopping them in the case of experiment.

I have used both cigarettes, and pot. I am 19, and in my entire life I've only had four cigarettes and smoked pot five times. I consider my use of these substances 'in moderation', as I've only used these substances weeks apart from each other, so I'm not in anyway addicted to them. My last cigarette was weeks ago.

I'm actually curious as to what effect people get from smoking? Because like someone mentioned earlier, with weed you get an effect, whereas I haven't felt anything after a cigarette.

I'm also under the impression, that alcohol has as much or more effect on your body than both cigarettes and pot, the only reason it's not illegal, is because it would too hard to ban. And alcohol is a common element in social activities. How can all the blame for cancer be pinned on smoking?

In response to the OP I don't think a responsible adult should break the law. Assuming you meant if weed was legal, I don't see anything wrong with people smoking it.

reply

Then its clear you don't know many responsible people, because many do break the law and they more than likely do something for you at some point or another everyday.

reply

What's your point? If a murderer helps an old lady carry her groceries, murder should be legal?

Did you really just compare smoking weed to murder? Yeah, they're both illegal ergo they're both the same... Wow.

Actually, there exists a state of de facto decriminalization in many parts of the USA. I personally don't smoke weed anymore, but it's not exactly hard to find where I live (in the South), and not very seriously prosecuted in small amounts. And I've noticed a lot more support for complete decriminalization in the last few years.

It wouldn't surprise me if such support leads to action, especially with the state our economy has been in. Sure, cops and jails make a lot of money, but destroying organized crime and raking in billions in tax can turn a lot of heads (and fill a lot of pockets).

You missed my point. The other poster implied that if a criminal helps someone else, their criminal acts are OK. As I stated in my first post, I don't think there is anything wrong with weed except that it's illegal. I've no problems legalizing it.

As for your sarcasm I didn't say smoking weed and murder are the same, I compared them because they're both breaking the law.

reply

I enjoy cigarettes more than pot (I imagine I sound pretty retarded), but I still think pot should be legalized. I don't see anything wrong with it and the whole debate about it is retarded.

Its a bad analogy you made, just so you could make a biased point. A legitimate analogy would be to compare it to going 10 miles above the speed limit. They are both barely illegal. And here in NY, you get the same exact ticket for both offenses. Why jump to the worst thing in the world, murder? So strange.

reply

Pot isn't as bad while you get something out of it.

LEGALIZE IT

reply

I've only smoked weed a couple times. I see nothing wrong. Especially like the lame unrealistic commercials.

An earlier point brought up about addiction. Cigarettes are intentionally made to be chemically addictive. It's also proven they can give you cancer. Yet they're perfectly legal.

Now while weed doesn't contain nicotine, I suppose it's possible to develop a mental addiction. Hell, alcohol and caffeine are also addictive and they're perfectly legal.

I've heard multiple reasons why weed became illegal in America. There was a time when it was legal. And because of the several uses of hemp, early American farmers were even encouraged by the government to grow. Rumor I heard was rich cotton farmers felt their business being threatened by hemp and lobbied to have it made illegal. Given the time in history it was easy for the government to get the people to vote on making it illegal.

Bringing up the question as to why the government won't put the subject up to vote again. I think the US government doesn't put it up to popular vote is because they know legalization would win out.

The anti-drug guys claim that it is a "gateway" drug. That if you smoke weed, you WILL go to heavier dangerous drugs. Which just isn't the truth. I've never been like "Wow, this joint was awesome. But I want some heroin now!"

It's a simple fact that the government could make so much more money by legalizing and regulating weed than is wasted trying to pointlessly fight it. Furthermore money is then given to drug dealers.

Cannabis is nothing like alcohol. If so, where are the detox centers for cannabis? Or the rehab units to help folks 'kick' cannabis? They don't even have a 12 step program for cannabis use - sheesh! Alcohol is far more traumatizing to society than cannabis. Alcohol may kill, but cannabis incarcerates

I think it's a bit hypocritical for people who are incredibly anti-cigarettes to be fine with smoking pot. Sure, it's not physically addictive, and sure, it could be perceived as more advantageous to users than cigarettes, but quite frankly, pot is filled with *beep* That stuff is not healthy. Smoking anything, really, is horrible for your body, but pot? That stuff can really trash your body. It's crap for your lungs. If you want to stay healthy, you should probably stay clear from pot or any other substance you smoke. It's REALLY not a good decision for your body, unless you get into the argument for medical marijuana (which is a whole different story).

reply

people who are sceptical or completely against weed should look it up! do some damn research! there is no proof that weed can cause harm to your body! in fact, there is much research showing that it helps fight different cancers! it also can help with mental problems. i have clinical depression and social anxiety disorder and it HELPS! also, its a fun, enjoyable pasttime just like watching TV and movies. WAY better than alcohol (alcohol can actually kill you) it can calm you and help you focus (if you take a responsible amount) and because of those effects it can aide you with work. if you want to make life more enjoyable - SMOKE WEED! my little bro does it to help with his homework because he has ADHD. i read that it helps autistic people and children! the reason people do it is because it is INCREDIBLE. and like people dont break laws worse than smoking weed every day! littering, loitering, j walking, you name it - they are all illegal, just like smoking weed. who ALWAYS COMPLETELY STOPS at a silly stop sign? - not doing that's illegal. if there is any "bad for lungs" flak then i will say it - PEOPLE DONT ONLY SMOKE JOINTS, BLUNTS, AND HARSH PIPES! Vaporizers, bubblers, bongs, water pipes, +more make the smoke easy to breath and the carcinogens become non-existant. FIND SOME PROOF THAT IT IS BAD ENOUGH TO BE ILLEGAL, AND I WILL QUIT!

reply

Even if it there are some bad side effects it should still be legal. Because from the looks of it the good definitely outweighs the bad. There's bad side effects in everything, from food to prescription drugs, so it's not like it would be much of a difference if there were a few in weed. If it came down to it I'd rather ride in a car with someone on weed than someone on any prescription pain killer, everyone and their mother takes that shyt.

Legalize and tax it. That would probably help our jacked up economy, and release people imprisoned over marijuana charges, they don't belong there.

People saying you can't get addicted to pot are either:

-people who havent smoked pot

-only smoked pot once or twice

-addicted and never stopped smoking pot to try out if they are addicted

You CAN get addicted to pot. And you can get addicted pretty easely. If you smoke pot on a daily basis you WILL get addicted.

I smoked pot for about 4 years every day, and I stopped about 8 months ago. Let me tell you: It is STILL hard not to smoke pot. Almost all of my friends smoke pot too, guess what? They are ALL addicted. I am from Amsterdam, and trust me, I know what I am talking about.

If you smoke pot a couple of times in a month, it won't do much harm though.

reply

And fat people can become addicted to food, doesn't mean it should be illegal.

reply

i smoked pot for 16 years. Daily for 12.
in that time I've quit smoking 4 times.
Never with the intention of quitting forever.
i quit while job searching.

every time for 4 or 5 days after quitting i felt mildly agitated and annoyed.
after those first few days I had no lingering negative feelings or withdrawal symptoms. No physical addiction whatsoever.

I haven't smoked in 8 months, but i plan to start back in 2 or 3 months.
i will smoke until i die because it makes me happy.

Being from Amsterdam has no bearing on your marijuana addiction credentials. Trust me, I know what i'm talking about.

reply

When I smoked I hid behind the it's not addictive "fact" whilst I was very mentally addicted and reliant on the drug. I did however manage to stop it after going through a morning, noon and night smoke-a-thon for about 7 months. I don't think it's a drug that should be demonised I believe it's a lot better than alchohol and makes tobacco laughable. I never have stopped with the intention of quitting forever but I do hope to go the Clinton route and never inhale again. I think becoming a pretentious stoner *cough cough post above this cough cough* is much more terrifying than becoming demotivated.

reply

i personally don't think its addictive, its the release thats addictive as with most things. A little story, I live in New Brunswick where everybody smokes pot and its incredibly easy to get and have been smoking pot off and on for the better part of 8 years. While working for a local construction company, doing disaster cleanup fixing buildings that had caught on fire and water etc., anyways it was a *beep* job and I worked all the time, as a result I was smoking approximately an ounce and a half in a week and drinking a lot as well as consuming a retarded amount of red bulls, had to stay awake. Anyways after this I started going to school and completely stopped cold turkey and felt no side effects because I wasn't doing construction anymore. Point is Marijuana, like alcohol and cigarettes, have different effects on everybody but are only addictive as far as the release is addictive not the substance, that being said alcohol and cigarettes are both physically addictive but I think that most of the addiction has to do with the persons situation and there release from it, but are not nearly as bad as heroin, and coke and stuff. I agree its not a gateway drug and i think that it should be legalized and the drinking age should be lowered as well, for beer and such, because if you take the mystery out of drugs and alcohol kids are less likely to start, the solution isn't to put them in jail, its to make it widely available to everyone and let them decide, because the thought of being caught and arrested doesn't really stop many people from trying them and continuing, if anything it just give's them more of a rush. Oh and weed does effect your driving, just not in the same way that alcohol does, at least in small amounts, if you get so baked you can barely move, you shouldn't be driving, in general when you drive high, you realize that your impaired and drive accordingly, on the other hand when your drunk you think your completely capable of driving normally and drive far to fast and recklessly.

reply
