Is it just me or would it have been a better strategy to allow the skull-and-bones? People who are addicted would still buy cigarettes, and people who smoke "to be cool" would probably be attracted even more by the symbol, which is fairly trendy even in non-Goth circles.
Its already being done here in Australia, has for quite some time. We get more than skull and cross bones logos though, we have pictures of:
-Gangrene foot -Picture showing normal lung, then emphysema lung -Close up of an eye teling us we'll go blind -Pictures of babies and children saying our smoke harms them, even in the womb
Theres more, but I can't think what other images I've had. Trying to collect the whole set.
I was travelling to a few of the countries in south east Asia and i saw that the graphic packaging ( lungs and gangrene etc ) have been implemented for quite some time.
And what that's led to is ...that either people have jut learned to ignore the messaging or they have gone in for cigarette cases or rubber packaging which can be just pulled over a pack once you buy it.
So i guess what is the bottom-line is that where there is a will there is always a way. Smoke on....
Each thing I do, I rush through, so I can do something else.
We get them in New Zealand too. Gangreine, blindness, heart disease, lung cancer, all the usuals, some of them are pretty graphic too, and they take up the whole backside of the pack as well as the top of the front.
But with this mentality alcohol bottles should have it too. Let's admnit it, alcohol is basicly weak posion that blockes parts of your brain, that's why you feel good from it.
the pictures are just disgusting. it would piss me off even more if the gov't decided to add some nasty ass image on a pack of ciggerettes they legally allow me to buy.
why are they trying to make me look like an *beep* "oh hey chick, want a ciggerette from this nasty ass box with a picture on it?"
Huh... Wow. I thought they were exaggerating for comic effect! Actually, they recently started the most disgusting campaign on tv here in America, where they start squeezing gunk out of the organs of dead smokers... during prime time! I remember because I was eating dinner at the time when I first saw it. And then couldn't finish because it was all I could do not to throw up.
the pictures on the packages are nothing compared to the "educational" videos they show little kids in school. I remember them showing us dramatic videos of people spitting up tar and all kinds of gross stuff. It's pretty traumatizing when you're in elementary school.
