Did this fim have the same ghastly colour rendition as the DVD?

I can't believe any competent director and photographic crew would have deliberately produced a film with the horrible, over contrasty, orange hue that my DVD has.

Was this some problem with the transfer?

Or am I missing something and it was intentional and had some higher purpose?

Nicotine much?

It definitely has an orangey-grainy thing and a lot of contrast. Kinda reminds me of 60's film stock.

I actually kinda dig it. If you listen to the soundtrack there are drum breaks like John Bonham.

On the commentary, Reitman says the colour palette was intentionally meant to look like 'the browns of tobacco'. He said he was concerned people would think he was imitating Soderbergh's style (whatever that means.)

Like it or not, everything was intentional. There are details within details -everywhere-.

reply

Probably because Traffic from Soderbergh was released a few years back and had a very strong color grading in it.

Ahhh. Now that I think about it, it's become something of a cliche for movies involving Mexico and narcos and 'the desert'. Scenes from No Country For Old Men, The Counselor come to mind.

Why? I came into this game for the action, the excitement... Listen, kid, we're all in it together.
