Why was the sequel cancelled?
I was just wondering why is that the sequel to remake was cancelled since I know that there were plans to make it make but I guess because of the merge with Warner Bros and New Line Cinema, the plans were nixed.

shareI think it may've been partly that, also partly that they couldn't get the whole cast back & didn't want to replace anyone. And also partly because the story John Waters was preparing would've scared off every studio executive in California.
shareWhat was the storyline?
share--Tracy would have people hating her because she's famous & fat.
--Edna would get hooked on diet pills, but when Wilbur starts lusting after fat women, she snaps & devours a whole table full of snacks, instantly returning to her old weight.
--Link would accidentally take acid & have a stoned conversation with his forehead acne, which is being caused by a Beatle-wig he's been wearing to try & masquerade as part of the British Invasion.
--The Vietnam War would be a backdrop, possibly with Seaweed getting drafted.
--Penny would try to blow up the world out of anger.
--Something involving cattle prods & shock therapy would've been involved.

John Waters' Hairspray and the musical Hairspray were two completely different things. The one thing that prevented the movie from being made were the random, far fetched ideas that wouldn't fit with the 2007 movie. I mean, come'on, Link talking to his acne? That would have been waaayy too weird. They should have left John Waters out of this movie.
Another factor that stopped the movie from happening was Adam Shankman moving to Rock of the Ages and the movie got pushed aside until it was cancelled altogether.
