Why does Velma say....

"Oh, Bye Bye Birdie" at the end when the judges/talent scouts come in? Did one of the agents mention he was casting for BBB and Velma responded to it? How come she said that?

It seemed kind of random to be oh, a musical. Did she recognize him from it? So confused.

I believe she saw that written on one of the talent scouts' forms. She was just sucking up to them. Obviously, she would want them to cast Amber.

Thanks!

I definitely understood that she was kissing up to them and that she was looking out for Amber and wanting them to watch/cast her daughter.

But it seemed random for a talent scout/agent to walk in and have Velma look at him and say "Oh, Bye, Bye, Birdie." Perhaps she did see it on their forms! Thanks!

They definitely didn't show them wearing anuything about BBB or forms. There were seats reserved "for talent scouts" shown and as manager she'd know what they were scouting for. I just assumed she would have handled reserving the seats and was acknowledging them as she recognised who they were.

The agent is holding a film script in his hand. All you can see onscreen is that it's a script, but Velma glances down at the cover. And the film of "Bye Bye Birdie" came out in '63, so we're meant to think that Velma read the script cover and figured the agent was looking for actors/actresses to submit for the movie.

(The movie was on last night and I got a good look at the scene, which is why I suddenly had this brilliant insight. Hope it helps!)

Cool, I never noticed that he was actually holding a script in his hand. Thanks! I'll have to look for it the next time I watch it.
