John Travolta as a woman.

Did he say why he did this? :)

I thought he did a great job playing a woman in this movie. Although he was not a very good looking woman.

reply

Yeah, but disturbing too. :D

reply

Yeah...I thought it was disturbing, especially when I thought that he and Christopher Walken were going to kiss after their dance scene.

reply

Ugh.

I agree. I haven't been able to enjoy this movie because of Travolta's performance. If he were to just play the character the way Devine did, I wouldn't have minded but all that squirming and sashaying kind of reveals to me that all of these recent allegations about his sexuality are true. Nothing against gays, mind you. But his performance really is kind of disturbing.

reply

That was a joke, man.
Travolta hadn't done a musical since the 70s & he wanted to do one again. He heard about this movie being pitched & offered some production money for the part of Edna.

reply

Weird joke then.

whatever his "reason" for doing this is, i think the underlying reason is that the dude is just plain weird...

from the moment i see him wearing that hideous fat suit, to those beady eyes, to his odd lispy speech pattern, it just creeps me out - and i can't even finish watching that POS...

(Christopher Walken, too...he was, welllll - just creepy!!)

HOME is where the HEAT is...

Yeah, I finally finished watching it though I did fast forward through anything with Travolta dancing. Sorry, I don't care what anyone says. This dude is gay. Divine didn't even try to do any of that wiggling in the original. I mean I know unlike the original, this is a musical and both Travolta and Walken are known for the love of dancing. (Walken is always creepy, so I'm not bothered by his performance). Bt Travolta just takes it way too far and over-the-top. I've never seen a straight man take a cross-dressing performance that seriously and literally. I think the rumors are true.

reply

OMG you all are so rude!!!! Who cares if he's gay??? Why is that any of YOUR business??? Why do you deserve that personal information about someone you've never even spoken to?

And he's never said he was gay so i have no idea what your talking about.

Anyhoo the original play there was a guy playing the mother. Ok so he didn't do sashaying and shimmying....so? The original play was like 30-50yrs ago. Do you think they're gonna do the SAME EXACT thing as 30yrs ago??? And I guess none of you heard of directors....you know, the people that tell the actors how and when to shimmy and shake? If the director wanted booty shaking, johnny was gonna have to do it.

I loved him in this. Half the time i forgot he was a he. The only times i cringed was when he sang sometimes because he was trying to go really high pitched. But people its called acting. If your an actor and the director says kiss the guy thats dress like a girl, you do it or your fired(or never hired again).

reply

lol I don't get why people are saying it was disturbing!? I thought he was hilarious and did a good job. If you're gonna play a woman then you might as well do it properly and he did. The acting from all the cast was superb.

reply

@ Syko90 i TOTALLY agree :)

reply

it was a good challenge, why not do it?

reply

You are all *beep* and his performance was an absolute blast to watch.
