I saw this film the other night and loved it. However, I would have loved to have heard some of the original early 60s music played. I was a teenager back then (yes, I'm that old!)and it would have brought back happy memories of those times. I understand the reason for producing original music but a few of the old tunes wouldn't have come amiss.

The reason is that it is a film of a stage show.

There's lots of authentic 60's music in the original 1988 version of "Hairspray". This one is a musical, so all (or nearly all) of the music needs to be original by design.
