I just saw the remake for the first time, and found that my instinct to avoid it was justified. John Travolta, Christopher Walken and Queen Latifa do a great job with their expanded roles. However, the genuine chemistry between Tracy and Linc was nonexistent with Nikki and Zac. In this version, Tracy was too saccharine and white saviour-esque, compared to the original where she was just an open-minded, self-confident, misfit. In the original, it was clear that that was what attracted Linc to Tracy. While in this one, the scene orders are so muddled and Linc's proclivities are so unclear that it's difficult for me to see them as an actual couple.
