Anyone else think she slept with charlie way too soon?

I mean a few scenes earlier, we see them kiss in the bathroom for the first time and then bam, all of a sudden they have sex - it seemed a bit out of character for both characters and didn't seem right in the context of the movie - and don;t give me the whole "this happens all the time in high school" bs - sure it happens, but it didn't have to happen in this film and it just didn't flow right - it was def kind of slutty for her to sleep with him that soon

reply

Well She looks slutty...

He was pretending you were a woman? No, that's not gay. Totally fine."

reply

I wasn't getting a virgin princess vibe from her character or anything so I wasn't really surprised.

I thought it would have been a cool plot twist if the pharmacy bag had a pregnancy test in it. hehe.

He would have really been mad.

YEa seemed a bit fast. But the part that got me was the fact that right after he gets up and tells everyone at the party they jsut did it. If i was her i'd probably be thinking, at least in the back of my mind, that maybe my dad was right, that he jsut wanted to be able to tell people he got with the principal's daughter.
He showed he was fine through the movie and wanted ot actually be with her, but right after her dad talks to her about that, they haev sex and charlie proceeds to immediately tell everyone.

reply

but he didn't say he slept with the principle's daughter, he just said he was no longer a virgin though.

I do. She just knew him for such a short time they hadn't eve done a lot of stuff together and they had sex. It was really inappropriate. It contributed somewhat in making me hate the movie.

reply

I agree that it was too soon for them to have sex; but they're are also both teenagers, and teenagers are notoriously stupid for having sex when they're not supposed to, with people they're not supposed to. Girls get into it usually out of peer pressure and then they kinda have to grow out of it, whilst the guys usually either do it their whole lives or not at all.

Kinda sad when you think about it.

I actually don't feel like we are given a good sense of just how much time has passed. It must be several months into the school year before he throws the party, so they may have been hanging out more than we see. That said, I think that she had an agenda for having sex with Charlie, she wants to prove her father wrong (i.e., Charlie does want to have sex with her, but not because she is the principal's daughter). It is clear that she likes him, he likes her, and he at least is a virgin (we have no real indication of her status prior to the event). A few weeks of hanging out might have felt long enough to her and parties often lead to encounters.

reply

I always have a hard time figuring out if that's just realistic for some people or because "it's a movie."I think the movie excuse might work well here

Are you a time traveler from the Dark Ages?

reply

as noted elsewhere in the thread the Timeline of the film isn't expressly stated

But I was under the impression the whole film covers the better part of a 9-month school year... that scene comes after the halfway mark so while we've only had a handful of scenes, they've probably known each other for several months and have been hanging out for nearly as long
