HELP!

I loved the quotation at the end of the film (I know it wasn't philosophical genius or anything).

Can anyone help?

something like "We don't know if what we live is real". Not exactly this, but hey, it was a translation.

The translation used when I saw it said:
"It's hard to tell that the world we live in is either a reality or a dream."

No, your explanation is excellent, and beautifully poetic. I regret I didn't think about this earlier. It did remind me of Calderon's "La vida es un sueño y los sueños, sueños son" (Life is a dream, and dreams are dreams), but this is better.

Cheers for the help everyone :)

And also, the sentence applies I think to the husband who thinks that his wife is happy and that their marriage is OK again, but what does he know?
